Look up a Oklahoma company
Oklahoma only allows its search on its own site, so this opens in a new tab. It finds the company, not usually its EIN.
What the Oklahoma business search shows
The Oklahoma Secretary of State corporation search finds a company by entity name. It finds a company by entity name. Use it to confirm a company exists and is active, not to get its federal number.
The Secretary of State's FAQ says it does not issue EINs.
The Oklahoma filing number
The Oklahoma Secretary of State gives every company a filing number when it is formed. It identifies the company in state records, and it is not the company’s EIN.
Check if an Oklahoma LLC is active
Search the company in the Oklahoma business search and open its record. The status tells you whether the state counts the company as active. Words such as dissolved, revoked, forfeited, inactive or delinquent mean it is not in good standing, usually because an annual filing or fee was missed, and the company may need to be reinstated before it can do business there.
To prove a company is in good standing to a bank, a lender or another state, order a Certificate of Good Standing from the Oklahoma Secretary of State. Our LLC status check reads the status from public data where a state publishes it.
Good to know in Oklahoma
- Oklahoma's yearly LLC filing is an annual certificate rather than an annual report, and it is due on the anniversary of the LLC's registration rather than on one statewide date. It confirms the LLC is active and gives its principal address and a contact email, which the Secretary of State requires in order to send future notices; an LLC that has not filed within 60 days after the due date stops being in good standing.
- The Oklahoma Tax Commission's registration instructions say an EIN is required before registering a business with the state, and they list limited liability companies among the businesses that must have one whether or not they pay wages. A single-member LLC with no employees still needs its own EIN to open Oklahoma tax accounts.
- An Oklahoma sales tax permit is issued first as a probationary permit, and it renews only if the business has reported and paid on time. The Tax Commission will not renew a probationary permit while the owners or members are delinquent in filing or paying Oklahoma taxes, so an LLC's permit can depend on its members' own tax standing.
