What each state’s data can tell you
Connecticut and Colorado show the status the state has on file. Florida, Texas, New York and Oregon only list active companies, so a match means listed as active, and no match proves nothing. Pennsylvania confirms the company but not its status. For other states, we open the state’s own search.
Questions
How do I check if an LLC is active?
Search the state's business records for the company. The record usually shows a status such as active, dissolved or revoked. Only the state's own record is final.
What does good standing mean?
It generally means the company is up to date on its state filings and fees. The state can issue a certificate of good standing if a bank or another state asks for proof.
Why does the tool not show a status for every state?
State data differs. Connecticut and Colorado publish a status for each company. Florida, Texas, New York and Oregon publish active companies only, and Pennsylvania's data has no status.
If a company is not on an active list, is it closed?
Not necessarily. It may be under a different name or registered in another state, so check the state's official search.
