What this EIN lookup searches

The IRS has no public EIN search, so no tool can find every company’s number. This one searches the public records where EINs do appear, and for other states it takes you to the official company search.

EIN lookup questions

Is there a free EIN lookup?

There is no complete one, because the IRS has no public EIN search. This tool is free and searches the public records where EINs do appear: Florida company records, Texas taxpayer data, nonprofit filings and public company filings.

Can I look up a company by its EIN?

In some records, yes. Enter the nine digits and this tool checks Florida's records, Texas taxpayer numbers and nonprofits. A match shows who reported that number. No match does not mean the number is invalid, because most companies appear in none of these records.

Can I find any company's EIN by name?

Not for every company. Most states do not hold the EIN at all. For a private company outside these records, the normal route is to ask for a Form W-9, which any business you pay should give you.

How do I find my own company's EIN?

Check your CP 575 letter from the IRS, a past federal return, your bank's account paperwork and your payroll provider. If none of those has it, the responsible party can call the IRS and ask for a 147C letter.

Why does a Texas result say possible EIN?

The Texas Comptroller says an EIN may serve as the base of an 11-digit taxpayer number that starts with 1. The tool shows those nine digits as a lead. Confirm the number with the company before you rely on it.

How current are the results?

Texas, Connecticut, Colorado, New York, Oregon and nonprofit results come from live data feeds, and Pennsylvania's updates monthly. Florida adds new companies each work day and updates EINs quarterly, and each Florida search links to the same search live on Sunbiz.
