Look up a Alaska company
Alaska only allows its search on its own site, so this opens in a new tab. It finds the company, not usually its EIN.
What the Alaska business search shows
The Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing keeps Alaska’s record of companies formed or registered there. Use it to confirm a company’s exact legal name and whether it is active.
The Alaska entity number
The Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing gives every company an entity number when it is formed. It identifies the company in state records, and it is not the company’s EIN.
Check if an Alaska LLC is active
Search the company in the Alaska business search and open its record. The status tells you whether the state counts the company as active. Words such as dissolved, revoked, forfeited, inactive or delinquent mean it is not in good standing, usually because an annual filing or fee was missed, and the company may need to be reinstated before it can do business there.
To prove a company is in good standing to a bank, a lender or another state, order a Certificate of Compliance from the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing. Our LLC status check reads the status from public data where a state publishes it.
Good to know in Alaska
- Alaska does not levy a state sales tax, so there is no state sales tax account to open. Many cities and boroughs levy their own sales tax, and a business files those returns on forms from the municipality where it did business, not from the state; remote sellers may instead need to register with the Alaska Remote Seller Sales Tax Commission.
- The Division issues three numbers that are easy to confuse with the EIN: the Alaska Entity Number for the LLC itself, the Alaska Business License Number, and professional license numbers. The business license application asks for the Entity Number, and the Division states plainly that it does not issue EINs.
- A new Alaska LLC may owe an Initial Report within six months of formation, a separate filing from the biennial report that adds the company's owners or officers to the state record. Only domestic corporations and LLCs file it; a foreign LLC registered to do business in Alaska does not.
