Look up a Delaware company
Delaware only allows its search on its own site, so this opens in a new tab. It finds the company, not usually its EIN.
What the Delaware business search shows
The Delaware Division of Corporations name search finds a company by entity name or file number. The Division of Corporations says it does not issue or maintain records of FEIN/EINs, and that you may file your annual report and pay taxes without having a Federal ID number.
The Delaware file number
The Delaware Division of Corporations gives every company a file number when it is formed. It identifies the company in state records, and it is not the company’s EIN.
Check if a Delaware LLC is active
Search the company in the Delaware business search and open its record. The status tells you whether the state counts the company as active. Words such as dissolved, revoked, forfeited, inactive or delinquent mean it is not in good standing, usually because an annual filing or fee was missed, and the company may need to be reinstated before it can do business there.
To prove a company is in good standing to a bank, a lender or another state, order a Certificate of Good Standing from the Delaware Division of Corporations. Our LLC status check reads the status from public data where a state publishes it.
Good to know in Delaware
- Delaware LLCs file no annual report. Their one recurring obligation to the Division of Corporations is a flat annual franchise tax due June 1, paid online against the file number, and an LLC that misses it loses its good standing, which is what a lender or acquirer checks first.
- Delaware's certificate of formation names only the LLC and its registered agent; members and managers are not on the public record. That privacy is a large part of why out-of-state founders form there, and it is also why the registered agent is the only address the state has for the company.
- Most Delaware LLCs are operated from another state, and Delaware does not exempt them from that state's rules. The LLC usually has to register as a foreign LLC where it actually does business, and that home-state registration, not anything in Delaware, is what asks for the EIN and opens the tax accounts.

How do I search for a business in Delaware?
Use the Delaware Division of Corporations name search, which finds a company by entity name or file number. Search by the main words of the name, without LLC or Inc, so small differences do not hide the company.
Does the Delaware business search show a company's EIN?
Generally not. The EIN comes from the IRS, and Delaware's business records are kept for the state's own purposes. A Form W-9 from the company is the reliable way to get it.
